Mar 22 – Nike “This is Love” event

Nike recently organized a Malaysia’s biggest women-only event – the “This is Love” event held at the Asia Pacific Auction Centre (APAC), near the old Subang Airport on the 22 March 2008. All you need to do to get hold of tickets was to register online at www.nikewomen.com.my or purchase anything at any Nike outlet. Each ticket allows you & 3 friends to come along.

Since the event starts at 5pm, my colleague, Yuzmin and I decided to meet at APAC at 4.15pm in case we get lost. The rain was pouring that afternoon. U thought we were kiasu for going early? There were about 30 girls already in line. Everyone wanted the complimentary Party Kit & Che’Nelle CD for the 1st 500 at the door.

Suddenly the organizer announced that Che’Nelle was at the promo bus outside, first 44 ladies are permitted to see her. Yuzmin & I looked about. No one in the front was willing to give up their space for Che’Nelle. Kekkekek…

Once the gate opened, we were lead to a dark hallway, with only pink spotlights to follow. We appeared in a big hall with music & DJ playing, kickboxing, rock climbing, pole dancing, body combat/jam, medicure/pedicure located at every area, In the middle of the room were “live” & plastic mannequins were clad in Nike attire.

The 1st sport I went for was pole dancing. Haik haik..i know what you guys are thinking. Girls learn this for ur benefit. Yes, it might seem sexy where the ladies would hang on the pole with their legs wide open. But have you realize the amount of strength to even hang there. We were advice to wear shorts & those with long pants to roll it up. My instructor had a huge tattoo on her thigh :O I can’t say I fancy much on this sport, coz when we did the twirl around the pole, it kinda shaft on the skin *ouch*

Next was kick boxing. 3 punching bags with 3 instructors. Yuzmin & I thought of going for the cutest instructor, in which equivalent to the youngest. But he was terrible at teaching. They were trying to get as many girls surrounding the punching bag, so it was pretty ridiculous for all punch at once. We were taught the basic left & right punch, upper cut & hooks. After that, we were given a few seconds to whack the living sh*t out of the bag. I just did a few strong punches & was awarded a pink Nike tumbler for being the best student in that session *whoopee!!*

Next, we went for a game of futsal 3 vs 3. Yuzmin & I were kicking ass that night. I tackled for the ball while Yuzmin scores it. We won the 1st game, I was tired. Winners stay for 2nd game. I requested Yuzmin to lose the next round :p New players in. Tougher competition. But we still won. Kekeke…we big bullies

A few other stuff I wanted to try eg. rock climbing & Nintendo Wii. But the queue was too long. I totally skipped the makeover, hairstyling and manicure… (who wanna do these when exercising, no guys there also).

At 7pm, another section of the great hall was opened up with a stage welcoming us. The series of workouts began with a kickboxing demonstration and quick lesson by actress/model Hannah Lo, who energetically bounced around on stage, encouraging participants to join in. Fitness First instructors came on next, making the crowd break out into a sweat with Body Combat and Body Jam moves. With everyone crowding so closely, it was quite difficult to move around. Just kick only lah….

Between sessions were various varsity teams taking the stage for the Nike Fitness Challenge, a group dance/fitness competition which awarded the winner (Monash Performing Arts Club from Monash University) with RM30,000 worth of Nike products, RM15,000 college bursa and a one-year Fitness First membership.

Nearly the end, was a Nike fashion show modeled by college participants & Fitness First instructors. Stage games played were such as most pushups & squating the longest. It was around 9pm when Yuzmin & I decided to make our move before everyone else starts jamming the car park. Anyway, I wasn’t a big fan of Che’Nelle, who was to appear at 930pm..

The carpark was brightly lit with round lanterns. Safety first. It was a good event. I know guys would either be complaining how come they are not invited or taking the blessing a night away from their ladies.  Maybe even asking why they don’t have an event like this too. Well, imagine attending an all guys event, with sweat all over clad with tight shirts/pants. I’ll just leave u to that while I cringe at one corner.
